Brabners
An independent UK law firm with northern roots, combining commercial advice with established family, housing and private client practices.

About Brabners
Founded in 1815, Brabners is an independent law firm with a longstanding presence in the North of England and offices extending to London. It advises businesses, individuals and organisations across commercial and personal matters. Clients range from multinational companies and growing businesses to social enterprises, families and professional athletes.
Its practice combines corporate, employment, property and disputes work with established family, agricultural and social housing teams. Sector interests include sport, technology, healthcare, manufacturing and regeneration. This breadth gives prospective trainees scope to explore different types of clients and legal problems within one firm.
Brabners is also a certified B Corp, reflecting its commitments to social and environmental performance. Applicants can connect this aspect of the business with their own interests, while showing an equally clear understanding of the firm’s legal work.
The two-year training contract comprises four six-month seats, allocated through a preference-based system. Trainees receive support from a training supervisor, the early careers team and a second-year trainee mentor. Mid-seat and end-of-seat conversations provide opportunities to discuss development and feedback.
Brabners accommodates both LPC and SQE qualification routes. Eligible future trainees can receive a bursary of up to £12,500 towards their chosen study programme. Funding depends on the relevant arrangements and should not be treated as an automatic maintenance grant.

The application process
Click on each stage to find out more.
Applications begin with an online form. Brabners offers both vacation schemes and a direct training contract route, and its recruitment team reads every application individually.
For direct training contracts, eligible applicants include penultimate-year and final-year qualifying law students, final-year non-law students, postgraduates and degree holders. Vacation scheme applicants must be in their penultimate or final year of study, or have graduated.
Your application should explain why Brabners’ combination of work, clients and training appeals to you. Choose specific examples: an interest in sport could connect with commercial agreements or reputation disputes, while an interest in regeneration could connect with housing and property work. Explain what interests you about the underlying legal and commercial issues.
Support your suitability with examples showing what you contributed, how you approached a difficulty and what you learned. When discussing the firm’s values, connect them with something you have done or considered carefully. Current application questions and word limits remain unconfirmed.
